Any day I get to discover a new trail is a good day in my book. I absolutely love getting exercise outdoors. When I saw the flooded trails at Camp Lonesome Nature Preserve I was a little disappointed but not enough to turn back.

Other than the trudging through mile after mile of ankle to knee deep water and muck, I had a great time. The landscape is beautiful in the Preserve and it is bustling with wildlife. I spotted deer, turkey, and all sorts of birds including an owl. While most of the wildlife I encountered escaped my lens, I was still able to take a few good pics.

After checking out all of the trails and roaming around I ended up putting over 15 miles on my fitbit. Of course you could make it out in as little as 2.8 miles but being the overachiever I am I had to check out as much of the property I could.

When the trails are dry, Camp Lonesome Nature Preserve is a great place to enjoy nature and get a little exercise in the process. You can bring your dogs and there are quite a few picnic tables and even restrooms. Just remember to bring water and a snack depending on which trail you take.
