We only have three more weeks of school here in our county before summer break.  The kids are getting excited, but as a mom I know how important it is to make sure my son doesn’t  experience that dreaded summer learning loss. This year it is especially important because he is going to start Middle School next year and there will be enough stress associated with that change.  I’m thankful that on June 22nd he will be joining kids all around the US on a race to find the real life hidden treasure buried in the ground somewhere on Earth, The Sunstone of Cortés!

As a reminder, the fun learning adventure runs over the summer with HUGE reward in the end for one lucky participant (a trip to the ACTUAL Sunstone of Cortes! Not only do all the kids get to enjoy different external reading and math websites but they also get feedback on weekly writing exercises from credentialed teachers. This year Rosetta Stone has joined in the learning adventure and children have a chance to learn one of over 30 different languages in lieu of the writing portion. Parents are kept up to date via weekly emailed progress reports and the kids keep track on their dashboard. Throughout the adventure the kids will be mailed three different adventure tools to utilize while trying to solve this years challenge of finding the Sunstone of Cortes.

Getting excited?  Here is the first peek at the actual Sunstone! The Sunstone of Cortés trophy is completed. Here you can see a video of the Sunstone being made. It is about 12 inches in diameter and has mechanically rotating components that open to reveal the center compartment, where the key to retrieve the $10,000 prize will be hidden.

Comments

  1. My son would love to use Rosetta Stone to learn Spanish!

  2. Because of our family background, my kids have been wanting to learn Portuguese for a long time, but none of the local schools offer it, so I think they will enjoy the Rosetta Stone component. Oh, and the possibility of real buried treasure!
