ASUS Transformer Book #WindowsChampions
The ASUS T100TA-H2 ($449) is one of the newest in the line of detachable tablet/laptops and it’s perfect for someone like me who is on-the-go all the time. As many of you all know not only am I a blogger, but I also own a social media marketing/management company who specializes in lifestyle and travel. What does that mean in regards to technology? I cannot be tied down to one computer. Whether I’m at home, in the office, at a conference, event or just traveling I need gadgets that are both portable and offer enough storage and speed to keep up with me.
Storage and Speed
It took me a bit to wrap my head around this…but when used as a tablet the ASUS Transformer Book is 64GB but when docked to the keyboard it’s 500GB. This is paramount for people like me. I have a tablet now that has a Bluetooth keyboard but unfortunately I never use it because it doesn’t offer enough storage to work on my clients accounts when I’m on the road. Granted I could live in the cloud, but honestly it isn’t as easy as it sounds. I need storage and I need speed and the ASUS T100TA-H2 hasn’t disappointed me in either of these departments. So what’s under the hood? How about an Intel Quad-Core Baytrail-T Z3740 1.33GHz processor with 2GB RAM? That works for me!
Bells and Whistles
I used the ASUS Transformer Book as my primary laptop for an entire week to see if it would hold up to my needs and there were so many bells and whistles that made it the logical choice for on-the-go that I thought I would share some of them with you. First off, as a small business owner who travels I need long battery life because I am not always able to plug in. The ASUS T100TA-H2 offers 11 hours of battery power and in standby I can get up to 2 weeks of battery life. That’s pretty remarkable seeing as how my full size laptop can’t last 5 hours without going dead and it doesn’t even automatically backup when the battery falls below a certain level unlike the ASUS Transformer Book that does an auto backup at 5%!
You would think that because this tablet/laptop hybrid is so conveniently sized a 10.1 (screen size) that there wouldn’t be a lot of ports available, but you are wrong. The docking keyboard offers a super fast USB 3.0 port, and the tablet hosts a MicroHDMI MicroUSB. Bluetooth 4.0 and a MicroSDXC slot. There is also a built in webcam for those Skype conference calls I have every week. Granted, the 1.2MP webcam isn’t up to par with my desktop or full size laptop, but it does serve the purpose.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention this is pre-installed with a FULL LICENSE MS Office Home & Student 2013 and full Win 8.1 version!
