Have an interview that you want to ace? Perhaps you have a 10 or 20-year high school reunion coming up, and you want to make heads turn? Or maybe you are reentering the workforce after a couple years of at-home parenting?

Whatever the reason, it can be easy to overspend on things that have a low payoff. And then not spend enough on areas that will do the most to give you the look you want to achieve. Not sure where to start in pulling together a new look for yourself? Here are the most effective moves you can make to move from “parent-style” fashion to glamor that will impress anyone.

  1. Tend to your smile.

The benefits of smiling have long been studied. From making us happier to helping us connect with others, your smile might be your greatest untapped asset. Why untapped? If you have not felt confident in showing your teeth when you smile, you may have tried to keep your mouth closed. Or you may have only used a small purse of the lips to show your pleasure.

Want others to respond to you positively within the first few seconds of meeting you? Then you should look into investing in your smile. There are various ways cosmetic dentistry can help you feel confident in your smile. From porcelain veneers to dental implants and more, this is the most effective move you can make to boost your confidence and your appeal.

  1. Look for a statement piece.

Perhaps you do not want to overhaul your closet. Maybe that kind of expense is not something you can handle right now. And there might not be a need for doing so. However, don’t neglect the power of purchasing a quality statement piece.

A statement piece is a piece that draws the eye. It grabs others’ attention and can help pull together your whole look, or help blur the fact that you might not have one. Your statement piece might be a clunky silver necklace, or an antique broach. It could also be a beautiful handbag passed down from your mom. Or a jacket that never fails to get compliments. Whatever it is, you’ll know it by the number of compliments you get and the increased confidence you feel when wearing the item.

Statement pieces should not make you feel uncomfortable, however. So if something is attention-grabbing, but it doesn’t suit your style, then you can know that it’s not going to work for you.

  1. Go for tailored clothes.

Loose clothing equals comfort, so it’s no wonder that many parents gravitate toward this type of clothing. Loose styles, however, 8 times out of 10 can also look sloppy and won’t do much to help you polish your appearance.

This is not to say that you should always choose form-fitting over styles that glide over curves. Rather, this is about making sure that whatever clothes you have fit correctly. And taking those that don’t to the tailor.

  1. Don’t neglect a well-turned out heel.

Sneakers and flats are comfortable, we get that. But they don’t do much for your look. Remember, we’re not trying to put together attire for your day off. This is about making a great impression. And one of the fastest ways to do that is through wearing a heel.

All your life have you avoided wearing heels because you were afraid of the discomfort? If so, then you may have skipped seeing some great trends that look fab but also are gentle on the feet. You may need to pay a little more for comfortable heels that also look glamorous, but it will be well worth it.

  1. Work on your posture.

In a study by the University of Pennsylvania, they found that adjusting your posture could also change your emotional state. And then there are other studies that point to how your posture changes how others perceive you. If you want to look taller, healthier, thinner, or more confident, you might want to re-evaluate how you are standing.

It might take time until you stand without slouching. But there are various ways to help you make this a habit. Strengthening your core muscles is one such way. And there are back braces that you can wear that will keep you from slouching. Looking for a product to help you as you sit at your desk? There are back supports that help you to sit correctly, as well.

  1. I so truly believe the 3rd and 4th points. Though we ( me and my sis) go for ready made dresses, she makes sure they fit her right and if not she gets them tailored. Me, on the other hand, used to wonder how the dress ( of hers) looks so good and how mine’s a disaster… And comfortable heels seems to be a must have for a flats Lover like me 🙂
