With the holidays coming we need to get our kitchen organized. It’s almost time to start baking those yummy Christmas Cookies! Do you have everything you need? Make your holiday baking less stressful by having everything at your finger tips. I’ve decided to share a “staples” shopping list for this week’s post.
Shopping List
Sugar
Brown Sugar
Confectioners Sugar
Vanilla Extract
Almond Extract
All-purpose Flour
Self-rising Flour
Butter
Margarine
Eggs
Milk
Baking Powder
Baking Soda
Hershey Kisses
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Chocolate Chips
Red Hots
Salt
Walnuts
Pecans
Food Coloring
With these staple ingredients you should be able to make almost any cookie recipe you find!
Now with all these ingredients it is important to have sufficient modular canisters to store them in. If you can’t remember how old your ingredients are it might be best to get rid of it. There is nothing worse than spending hours in the kitchen only to find out your flour was bad and your baked goods didn’t rise correctly or worse yet have weevils. Make sure you canisters are clear – it makes it easier to see how much you have left and to identify what it is inside. Rubbermaid modular canisters work great and they are air tight. Another great feature of these canisters is that they have a comfort grip so that you can grab them while baking comfortably and with less chance of dropping.

POWDERED SUGAR BALL COOKIES
1 c. soft butter (do not substitute butter)
3/4 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
1/2 c. chopped pecans
1-2 c. powdered sugar for rolling
Cream butter and gradually add powdered sugar. Add vanilla, creaming well. Gradually add flour and nuts. Mix thoroughly. Shape into 1 to 1 1/2 inch balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 300 degrees for 35 minutes. Bottoms should be slightly brown. Tops will probably still be white.
While still warm, roll in sifted powdered sugar. Then immediately roll in powdered sugar again. Sift some more powdered sugar on top. Cool.
– These were always my favorite growing up that my grandma would back for me on christmas. I love them so much that I HAD to learn how to make them myself, haha.

Well, I have children so around the holidays I always spend time going through all of their toys and books. Throwing away those that are ruined, choosing toys to donate and, if they have a ton of toys – packing away some of them so there’s not as many toys to dump with visiting kids come over!

I learned that because the kitchen is one of the most used areas in the house you should keep all visible areas€”shelving, tables, counters, pass-bars, etc.€”should be kept free of letters, bills, newspapers and other daily detritus.

When I logged into my email this morning, a note popped up that said that I don’t need wrapping paper, but that I do need gift tags. I must have set this reminder last Christmas. These cookies are insanely good. I don’t bother with the sprinkles, and I make the rings by rolling out snakes, and pinching the ends together. Otherwise I cook them exactly as the recipe says.

A week or so before guests arrive is a good time to tackle cleaning those high traffic areas: main floor washroom, kitchen, living and dining room and hallways. If there will be very young children visiting, make sure the recreation room and basement are in good shape, too.

The tip I liked best form the website was to use Rubbermaid large containers to store shoes by the door – brilliant!
please accept this for the five additional entries – I really need these storage containers! My favorite christmas cookie recipe is to use flour, baking soda and salt mixed with egg, butter, peanut butter and vanilla to make peanut butter bars. cook for about 8-9 minutes in a 350 oven. Then, this is the best part, drizzle with Hershey’s Chocolate syrup. It is sooo good. Thank you for the contest, Lisa.
For bulky items that have no box, try rolling them in the wrapping paper and then tying off the ends with ribbons.. like a piece of candy.

When you’re decluttering for the holidays, decide if these items are things you really need. If not, take them to a charity shop for resale. Someone else may find your item to be the perfect gift for family or friends.
Liked the following tip: before guests arrive get a couple large Rubbermaid totes and clear out the hallway closet. Store out of season footware and clothing so there is ample room for guest items. Even when we clear the closet seasonally, there never seems to be enough room when there are guests.

Christmas Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
* Basic Cookie Dough
* 1/2 cup salted and roasted mixed nuts, finely chopped
* 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
* 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
* 2 tablespoons butter
* Vanilla Glaze
* Chopped salted and roasted mixed nuts (optional)
Directions
1. Prepare Basic Cookie Dough. Between sheets of lightly floured waxed paper, roll dough into a 16×9-inch rectangle. In a medium bowl, combine 1/2 cup mixed nuts, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cut in butter until mixture clings together. Sprinkle mixture evenly over dough. Starting from a long side, roll up dough tightly. Wrap in plastic wrap or waxed paper. Freeze about 2 hours or until dough is firm enough to slice.
2. Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Cut roll into 1/4-inch slices. Place slices 2 inches apart on the prepared cookie sheet.
3. Bake in the preheated oven about 8 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool on cookie sheet for 2 minutes. Transfer cookies to a wire rack; cool. Drizzle cookies with Vanilla Glaze. If desired, sprinkle with additional chopped mixed nuts. Makes about 60 cookies.
To Store: Layer cookies between sheets of waxed paper in an airtight container; cover. Store at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
Vanilla Glaze: In a small bowl, stir together 1 cup powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Stir in enough milk (3 to 4 teaspoons) to make a glaze of drizzling consistency.
Basic Cookie Dough Recipe: In a large bowl, combine 1/4 c. butter (softened), 1/4 c. shortening, and 2 ounces cream cheese (softened). Beat with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add 1 c. brown sugar, 1/2 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon, and 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg. Beat until combined, scraping bowl occasionally. Beat in 1 egg and 2 tsp. vanilla until combined. Beat in as much of the 2-1/2 c. all-purpose flour as you can with the mixer. Using a wooden spoon, stir in any remaining flour. Makes about 2-3/4 cups dough.

I keep all my wrapping supplies in a big clear plastic bag to see what all is on hand. Thanks!
Pre-holiday playtime for the kids should always include a cleanup component€”making a game out of putting away their toys is one popular solution. Great tip,,,great giveaway, thanks.

I keep all my bows in a container for safekeeping.
Preparing for the holidays typically means lots of cooking and baking, which require supplies such as flour and sugar. Buying bulk and keeping these necessities stored in airtight Rubbermaid Premier or Easy Find Lids containers helps avoid those panicked runs to the grocery store. You can also get a jump on meals by preparing any make-ahead dishes in advance.
I keep a little notebook in my purse and jot down everything I buy, and who it is for so I stay on budget and on task.
A small Rubbermaid clear container can be used to keep all your loose paperwork out of the way until after the holidays when they truly need to get sorted
I like the tip about using Microfiber Wet Mopping Pad. It works great for dusting too.
Dont shop when hungry as you tend to maybe pick up more than you need
I follow and attempt to do as much as I can before.

A week or so before guests arrive is a good time to tackle cleaning those high traffic areas: main floor washroom, kitchen, living and dining room and hallways.
